Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Jono Taves

May 26, 20262 min read

"If we believe Scripture is the inerrant Word of God, then everything we do, including education, should be built on that foundation. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn under the biblically grounded teaching that CSCS provided.”

Dr. Jono Taves graduated from CSCS in 2009 and now works as a physical therapist and podcast host. His experience at CSCS left an indelible mark on his life.

While at CSCS, Jono played on the soccer team and his coach—Dan Egler—taught him the value of teamwork and how to balance humility with confidence. “He would say things like, ‘Walk softly and carry a big stick’ and ‘That player puts their pants on the same way you do—one leg at a time.’ While humorous, those lessons stuck with me because of the wisdom behind them. I learned to overcome fear, lead with quiet confidence, and value a team-first mindset.”

After graduating CSCS, Jono continued in Christian education. “I continued my studies at a small Christian college in Iowa, largely because I came to value smaller class sizes combined with a biblical foundation. Remarkably, throughout all my education, even in my doctoral Physical Therapy program, I never once sat under a lecture that taught an evolutionary perspective. If we believe Scripture is the inerrant Word of God, then everything we do, including education, should be built on that foundation. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn under the biblically grounded teaching that CSCS provided.”

Today, Jono continues to make an impact through his practice, Novera: Headache Center, a specialized physical therapy clinic focused on helping people with headaches and migraines. He also hosts “The Headache Doctor Podcast”, where he aims to educate and empower those suffering from headaches and migraines by discussing non-medication approaches and interviewing other specialists.

Dr. Taves loves this work because of the meaningful impact it has on patients’ lives. The value of humility and teamwork that he learned at CSCS directly influences his business model: Instead of doing it alone, Jono partners with other physical therapists to care for patients in more than 35 states.

Jono credits CSCS with shaping his high view of truth and education. “We live in a culture that is increasingly hostile to—and disconnected from—the foundational Christian worldview and, ultimately, truth itself. If we define truth by what is revealed in Scripture, I don’t see how we can properly educate anyone without an understanding of our Creator. CSCS elevated my understanding of what education should be by providing a Christ-centered environment alongside strong academics.”
